Teenage Sexual Engagement

“If there’s real happiness in sex, then beasts must be happier than men.”

A considerably great number of teenagers nowadays engages in sexual activity. Well, that’s no surprise. Back in the time of the primitive people, a boy and a girl could get married, have sex and have children as soon as they get into the stage of puberty. But, we are no longer in the primitive time, aren’t we? Though pubescence – the time when sexual organs mature, the capability of sexual reproduction activates, wet dreams and sexual urges occur – which usually starts as early as the age of 12 for girls and 14 for boys, intercourse at this stage must be controlled or must be avoided for the sake of educational and economic purposes.

Teenagers must be discouraged of sexual engagement. Youngsters engaging in sex could result to a grave mess – from familial to societal. Such unguided, irresponsible engagement is traced to be the primary root of unwanted pregnancies and usually bears financial and psychological problems. Early pregnancy and early parenthood must be taken and dealt with in serious consideration.

One of the most common reasons for cessation of education is pregnancy and parenthood. When a school girl gets pregnant, she tends to feel ashamed of her peers, thus leading to the decision of quitting school. Pregnancy also requires intensive care so most pregnant women are advised to avoid stress and to get well-rested; and at some point, school activities and projects pressure and stress students; therefore, for the said case, schooling while carrying a child in the womb is not that easy.

The problem does not excuse the boys. Boys, as well, who instantly turn young fathers, who are immature and unprepared, will definitely be having a hard experience. They have no stable income, so they’d likely stop studying and get into a full-time job in order to provide the financial needs of their partner and their child. Even degree-holders nowadays find it difficult to get a job that pays good amount ample for the cost of living, how much more of these teenage parents who stopped schooling? how much will they earn? – that if they could get a job.

An undereducated could only end up to being a hard-up and/or jobless, adding to the frightful number of population within the shadow of poverty – and poverty is a serious problem of the society, of the nation, of the globe and everywhere.

Untimely pregnancy or parenthood could bring emotional and psychological complications. Teenage parents might feel shame to their fellow teens, their teachers, their parents and, most horribly, their own self. They might feel envy to their friends and people of their age for the freedom and enjoyment of youth which is too soon taken away from them. The hard life they would be experiencing could drag them into the pit of grave depression. Regrets always come at the end.

Since teenage pregnancy is usually unwanted, unexpected and unprepared for, abortion appears to be a nice promise of redemption. Ho, what horror that would be! Remember, a mistake could not be corrected by another mistake. Abortion – this horrible thing – jeopardizes the life of the mother. Blood, stuff and other remnants inside the mother’s reproductive system after abortion could cause infection that would give serious complications and fatal health hazards. And, what is it inside the womb is a form of life, a pre-mature but living human, so destroying it is no less but a sin. Abortion is murder in the womb. Murder is a crime and a mortal sin. For Heaven’s sakes! What were you thinking?

With this latent despair of low-education, financial difficulty, discomfort and distress – all for mishandled sexual urge, – what will happen to the orthodox saying “the youth is the hope of the nation?” For the youth to be “the hope,” they must hold self-control and self-responsibility within themselves. Now tell me, is sexual engagement of young individuals really just okay? No, no and no! Christ’s sakes!
